DESCRIPTION:
The Tencate CR5200SA is a tile array multi-hit level 4 ceramic and polyethelene plate. At 7.2lbs for a 10x12, the weight is reasonable, but what sets this Level 4 plate apart from others is the fact that it is a tile array plate.
This means, unlike traditional ceramic plates which are made up of a single piece of ceramic for the core, this plate is made up of individual tiles that have been pieced together.While our standard monolithic (one piece) ceramic plates offer great multi hit protection, this plate offers even more.
The Tencate CR5200SA is similar to the now discontinued RMA 1189 plate which could withstand 6 shots of .30-06 M2 AP at NIJ velocities.
This is possible because the individual ceramic tiles act like individual plates. When one is struck, it damages only that tile and not the tiles around it. This means other tiles around it are good for subsequent hits with little loss of performance.
Tencate CR5200SA is a beefy plate, and an excellent option if maximizing protection to the greatest extent possible is your primary goal. This will easily withstand multiple hits of .30-06 M2 AP, 7.62x54R API, 7.62x51mm M61 AP, M80A1, M855A1 and 7.62x39 AP.
It will not be the lightest or the thinnest option out there, but it will be one of the strongest options out there.
